Tivoli Neu was named after the original Tivoli stadium, which could be found on a different place next to the Sill River. It was closed down in 2004. Under the financing of the city of Innsbruck, Tyrol, the Republic of Austria under the construction of ISpA (Innsbrucker sports facilities deployment and recovery GmbH), a new sports and leisure park called Tivoli was built. In 2008 Tivoli Neu was opened. Innsbruck lies in a valley, surrounded by mountains, while the stadium itself is just to the southeast of the city centre, about a mile and a half from the railway station. The stadium can be reached using public transport and is only a few kilometers from Innsbruck airport.
The Tivoli Neu Stadium itself is part of the Olympiaworld Innsbruck complex which contains the Olympiahalle ice hall, the Tiroler Wasserkraft Arena, a sports centre called the Landessportcentre Tirol, and the stadium itself. Olympiaworld has two ice rinks (one small and one large) and a speed skating track. The large ice rink was one of the venues for the 2005 Ice Hockey World Championships.
The Tivoli Neu stadium boasts a 10,000-square metre arcade, including facilities such as clubrooms, sports stores and fitness centres, several football pitches, an open air swimming pool. The Tivoli-Neu is a multifunctional arena that can also be used for concerts and large events.
